Titanic has an alternate ending that is incredibly bad

In the original ending, Rose (Gloria Stuart) approaches the Keldysh’s stern and steps onto the rail before releasing the heart of the sea in her hand. Instead of giving it to Brock, she throws it into the sea and the necklace floats to Titanic. She returns to bed, where she dies and drifts off into her own heaven: back on the ship, surrounded by smiling staff and guests, and more importantly, Jack is waiting for her there.

The alternative ending is very different: as she stands on the rail, her daughter and Brock run onto the stern, believing she is going to kill herself. She steps back, but tells them not to come near before showing them the necklace. “I’ll drop it,” she threatens.

When other crew members join them, Brock says, “Look, Rose. I don’t know what to say to a woman who is trying to jump off the Titanic if it’s not sinking and then jump back onto the Titanic if it’s sinking… We’re not dealing with logic here, that I know – but please think about it for a second.”

“Oh, I’ve been thinking about this for years and I’ve come all the way here to put it back where it belongs,” she says. He begs her to let him have it just once, and she complies. “You’re looking for treasure in the wrong place, Mr. Lovett. Only life is priceless and every day counts,” says Rose before throwing it into the sea. “This really sucks, lady,” one of the men yells, but Brock starts laughing, his worldview obviously changed by love.

But it’s bloody stupid, and others agree. “The alternate ending of Titanic is hilarious. “That would have absolutely ruined the movie for me,” said one user tweeted. “This could only have been worse if a shot of the jewelry reached the seabed and ended up in the hand of a skeleton wearing Jack’s clothes lmao,” another joked.

“It’s mind-blowing to think that this wasn’t just written into a script, it was actually staged and filmed. It’s unbelievable that anyone on the crew shot this without freaking out,” commented a third party.

Even Bill Paxton wasn’t a fan of the alternate ending, telling Yahoo, “I’ve always seen the full story I was involved with, with Suzy Amis and Gloria Stuart, we were like the portal on the Saturn V rocket.” [in Apollo 13].

“We’re here to hold the rocket up. But as soon as the rocket takes off, the gantry falls into oblivion and falls away. Coming back to us was a way to wrap up the story and tie the story of the old rose and whatnot. But you didn’t really need anything from us. Our work was now done. So it became very clear on average. If you are smart and take out the ego and narcissism you will listen to the movie. The film will tell you what it needs and what it doesn’t. And the baby needs tough love.”
