What happened to Joshua vs Whyte?
Anthony Joshua was originally scheduled to fight Dillian Whyte but Whyte failed the usual drug test just before the weigh-in. Whyte’s fate is hotly debated, with many experts calling for an indefinite ban.
Whyte reportedly disagreed with the result, pointing out that it was an optional drug test to which he agreed and which was administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association. He notes how strange the arrangement would be for someone knowingly using drugs. As a result, the boxer calls the result inadmissible and claims he never took the drug that VADA allegedly tested positive for. Notably, Whyte experienced a similar mishap in 2019 and later had his name cleared. However, he served a two-year ban for drug use from 2012 to 2014, a decision that was ultimately upheld and unchallenged.
The show’s promoters quickly worked to replace Robert Helenius. Joshua vs. Helenius and all undercard fights are scheduled to start at the O2 Arena.
